This piece represents a visual language that has developed through experimentation and confidence of the lens through which I view the world. It has an obscure sense of time and place, crossing dimensions with recognizable shapes and imagery that convey architecture and natural formation from which the human faces emerge from different levels and depths. Rich colors and textures combined with allusions of underwater sea life and other worldly abstractions create the landscape for the figures to appear like they are a part of a still-growing ecosystem.
The many faces are representations of the strong voices of our ancestors before us, our mothers, friends, neighbors, people we cross paths with in life, people we learn about from history. We build our lives on the backs of our Ancestors. Honoring the people and places that forge our identity and the beauty that can exist in a sometimes ugly world. Acknowledging the time we spend consuming visual stimulation with a still, but chaotic artwork that engages with the nature of being authentic and true to a tradition in a theatrical display of technical skill - a visual comment on luxury in the age of mass digital media.
It felt decadent to me, using so much valuable time to make. This piece represents who I am as an artist today and though it is one of the last of the collection, it is just the start of my found voice.
