Gallery > Whisper Tubes Installations

This piece is about the outcome of our efforts not always being what we intend. A hand-carved Victorian-style ceiling medallion is fixed to the ceiling with a pulley in the center. A hand-enameled cord dangles a leather and cushioned handle on one side, and the ceramic instrument on the other side. This functional pulley allows the viewer to physically engage the piece. When the handle is pulled, the ceramic device is hoisted right to the viewer’s mouth enabling usage of the communication instrument. The whisper tube has a mouthpiece with a plush handle for easy access and three sound bells. However, the user’s voice travels to the left, right, and behind, rather than forward.
